REIKI
Reiki is a Japanese word symbolizing the relationship between the Universal Life Energy and our personal life force. Reiki, when brought to a conscious and focused awareness, accelerates mental and physical healing and spiritual growth. It increases the body’s natural ability to heal physical ailments and to release the cause of disease. Reiki inspires an independent investigation of the truth, acceptance and responsibility for one’s life and elicits a mood of joyous serenity. It can be learned by anyone. This natural healing art was borne out of the experience and dedication of Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian educator. In the 1800s, he responded to a challenge from his university students by undertaking an extensive study of the healing phenomena of history’s greatest spiritual leaders. Through research and meditation, he discovered references in ancient Buddhist Sutras to symbols used for physical healing, which led to the development of the Usui System of Reiki. Dr. Usui spent the rest of his life practicing and teaching this healing art, which involves attunement to the Universal Life Energy and the laying on of hands. The Usui System of Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who are trained in the original traditions of Reiki, and whose lives are committed to fulfill the deep need of the world for healing and balance.
In a Reiki I class, participants are attuned to the energy and learn the history of Reiki, the basic hand positions for treatment and ways to use Reiki in their own lives and in service to others. The energy attunement occurs in four initiations shared by the Reiki Master with each student. Class time is provided for students to begin practicing Reiki on themselves and on the other students, under the supervision of the Reiki Master. The class creates a context wherein the student can come to accept, honour and develop their inherent ability to channel this gentle, loving and powerful healing energy. The only prerequisites for learning the Usui System of Reiki are openness, the desire to learn and the commitment to use Reiki in one’s life. A Reiki II class is usually taught in two sessions. In this class, those who have completed Reiki I training and have used Reiki actively in their lives, deepen their commitment to the use of Reiki. They are taught the methods evolved by Dr. Usui for distant healing, mental healing and increase of power. The essence of Reiki is as alive today as it was hundreds of years ago when it was recorded in the Sutras. It continues to grow through the teachers and students of Reiki and helps fill, in individuals and society, the need to be in balance and harmony with the Universal Life Force.
